Nobuo Sekine

Is light part of the sculpture? And what about its reflection? This time we made a series of works inspired by Nobuo Sekine: http://www.nobuosekine.com/image/stone-and-neon-1971/

We explained to the children that Nobuo Sekine’s artworks are the result of the encounter between natural elements (stone, paper, wood etc) with industrial materials, such as wire or neon. After this introduction we focused on Sekine’s artworks in which light plays a central role in showing how all these elements and the surrounding space are influenced by each other.

With plenty of grey clay and colored neon the children created stones connected by lights, and they were able to see how their light installations changed the surrounding spaces by taking their works to a previously obscured part of the class.
